Program

Join KPPC for one or both days of a Sustainable Manufacturing workshop. Simulations, case studies and exercises will engage students and demonstrate concepts. Training sessions are designed by Purdue University Technical Assistance Program’s Green Enterprise Development and licensed for presentation by the Alabama Technology Network (ATN).

 

Day 1: Green Generalist Training

November 12, 2012

8:00 – 4:30 p.m. ET

This session explores green concepts and components of sustainability by providing interactive awareness and general education experiences. Topics covered include:

  • Water Use and Air Emissions
  • Solid Wastes
  • Green Chemistry
  • Energy and Environmental Management
  • Implementation Plan Development

Day 2: Pollution Prevention Training

November 13, 2012

8:00 – 4:30 p.m. ET

This session is a more in-depth discussion of select  pollution prevention topics such as the benefits of air sampling, facility emission control, ozone concerns and impacts, how to lower emission expenses and new technologies for preventing air pollution. An afternoon focus on green chemistry will discuss how to use process reengineering to achieve a healthier, safer environment, how to reduce or eliminate hazardous substances and methods to maximize the amount of raw material that ends up in the final product. Participants will also learn about “hit list” chemicals, how to design energy-efficient processes and to use environmentally safe substances whenever possible.

FEE

Workshop cost is $99 per person. If registering for both days, the discounted rate of $75 will apply to Day 2. The discount code will be provided to Day 1 registrants via email. Workshop fee includes continental breakfast, lunch and workshop materials.

 

Certified Instructor

Both training sessions will be conducted by Anthony Holden, a Lean Enterprise Specialist and trainer certified by both the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and MIT’s Lean Advancement Initiative. In addition, he is a Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Lean Bronze Certified – Sensei. He has co-facilitated over 100 Lean implementation events with companies in various industries while at the Alabama Technology Network (ATN) center located at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Mr. Holden currently performs assessments, conducts training courses and facilitates sustainability implementation as part of the Alabama E3 program. He has a B.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering and a M.S.E. in Engineering Management.
